During Lelung Rinpoche's visit to the US in October 2005, he met many old friends and was able to discuss his many projects, including his plans to recreate thangkas to accompany the most important Lelung lineage practices. Rinpoche's friend, Kathryn Pon, was interested in supporting this project and has generously donated funds for twenty-one thangkhas. Her total donation amounted to $10,500.
Rinpoche is now negotiating with artists in Tibet and in India. The painting of the thangkhas could take 2-3 years. It depends on how soon Rinpoche decides which thangkhas need to be completed first and on the artist. If a team of painters work on Rinpoche's thangkhas, then the work could be done more quickly. On the other hand, Rinpoche is looking for high quality rather than fast production.
