Collected Works by Lelung Rinpoche

The Lelung Literature Preservation Centre was set up in 2003 in Dharamsala, North India. Its mission is to compile, transcribe and publish the works of the Fifth Lelung Rinpoche, Pema Zhepai Dorje.

Update 5th June 2006. Scholars at the Lelung Literature Preservation Centre have completed data entry and editing of 35 of the 40 volumes by the Fifth Lelung Rinpoche. Only five more volumes must be edited before Lelung Rinpoche (assisted by an experienced Tibetan scholar) will begin the final round of editing. Whilst material is available to complete 40 volumes, many of the teachings were scattered in remote regions of the world (Mongolia, Bhutan, Japan, Tibet, and the Indian states of Ladakh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh). As the holder of the Lelung lineage, the present Lelung Rinpoche has, during his lifetime, the responsibility to retrieve or reproduce all the works of his predecessors from these remote regions of the world.

Of the material available, some sixteen scriptures were brought out of Tibet by H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche. Dudjom Rinpoche, who was head of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism, was a great scholar and historian. The sixteen volumes of teachings from the Lelung lineage that he rescued are now preserved for posterity. The fact that Dudjom Rinpoche, a highly realized master, recognized the importance of these teachings and managed to rescue them during such period of uncertainty, indicates that they are likely to have great significance for future generations.

CENTRE COSTS

The Centre employs four Tibetan scholars and a geshe to ensure the scriptures are reproduced authentically. Lelung Rinpoche undertakes the final editing himself. Operating costs of the office are approximately £250 per month (the scholars working on the project do so on a minimum salary). Of these costs, £100 is being donated by Lelung Dharma Centre and £150 is donated by friends from Taiwan. Although these donors have pledged to continue, we now need to raise an additional £15,500 to cover the publication of the manuscripts. Rinpoche would like to print 100 copies of each of the 40 volumes for the various libraries and monasteries that have requested them. The breakdown of these costs is as follows:

Once completed, Lelung Rinpoche will undertake the free distribution to all the monasteries necessary. His Holiness the Dalai Lama and other great Tibetan Buddhist masters fully endorse this valuable project.
