The Geden Phacho Bhucho Preservation Centre organised a conference on 4th January 2008 while His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited Drepung Monastery In South India. The event was attended by highly respected masters from the Gelug lineage who came together to discuss the preservation of the Buddhist teachings for future generations. This is the second such event organised by the Centre, which coordinates an international project to protect endangered teaching lineages.

IMPORTANT NEW YEAR'S TEACHING EVENTS AT TASHI LHUNPO
Kyabje Jangtse Choje Rizong Rinpoche
Respected Tibetan master Kyabje Jangtse Choje Rizong Rinpoche taught on a series of important texts at Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in South India as part of the Geden Phacho Bhucho Project (GPBP) to preserve endagered Tibetan Buddhist lineages. From 14 December 2008 to 2 January 2009, Kyabje Rinpoche gave oral transmissions the works of three masters from the Gelug lineage. 23 JANUARY 2009

LELUNG MONK SELECTED FOR DEBATE

Sonam Tenzin, a monk from Lelung Valley who is studying at Drepung Loseling Monastery has been selected for a special honor. He was one of two students chosen to participate in a challenging debate on Buddhist scriptures. Sonam's selection is an indication of his efforts in study and Lelung Rinpoche would like to support him by offering a lunch to all the Drepung monks during the debate. 12 JANUARY 2006

CONFERENCE ON GEDEN PHACHO BHUCHO PROJECT

A conference on the Geden Phacho Bhucho project has been scheduled for June 2006. The conference, which will be held in India, will provide a forum to discuss the status of the project and future planning. LELUNG MONK RECEIVES HONOURS IN DEBATE

We are pleased to report that Sonam Tenzin, a monk from Lelung Valley who studies at Drepung Loseling Monastery in India, successfully completed the tsoklang or special debate session earlier this fall. KYABJE DENMA LOCHO RINPOCHE TO TEACH IN 2010

An important Tibetan Buddhist master will give teachings this spring as part of the Geden Phacho Bhucho Project. Starting 15th April 2010, Kyabje Denma Locho Rinpoche will teach at Gyuto Tantric Monstery in Dharamsala, India. Locho Rinpoche will give oral transmissions of the texts of Akuching Sherab Gyatso, a great Gelug master from Amdo. 10 APRIL 2010

FEEDBACK REQUESTED ON LELUNG LINEAGE BOOK

Lelung Rinpoche has just released English versions of chapters of the Lelung lineage book. The book details the histories and accomplishments of the Lelung lineage masters. These masters played an important role in the development of Buddhism in Tibet. The book, written by Lelung Rinpoche, was originally published in Tibetan in 2000. Rinpoche is requesting feedback from the public on this nearly finished translation. 9 SEPTEMBER 2008

DATES CONFIRMED FOR TRANSMISSIONS BY KYABJE RIZONG RINPOCHE
Lelung Dharma Trust has just received confirmation that Kyabje Jangtse Choje Rizong Rinpoche will give an important series of transmissions for the Geden Phacho Bhucho project in December 2008. These transmissions are a unique opportunity for anyone practicing the three main Gelugpa deities to receive oral transmissions from such an eminent master. The event will take place over 20 days at Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in South India. 8 SEPTEMBER 2008

UPDATE ON COLLECTED WORKS PROJECT

Scholars at the Lelung Literature Preservation Centre are making good progress on the Collected Works of the Fifth Lelung Rinpoche. So far, 35 volumes of the total 40 have been digitised and corrected. Only five more volumes need to be checked before Lelung Rinpoche and experienced scholars can verify the material. 5 JUNE 2006

CHARITY WALK SUPPORTS VITAL PRESERVATION PROJECT

Members of the Ruislip Lelung Dharma Centre, held their first ever charity walk on Sunday, 29 April. Participants--along with family, friends and pets--enjoyed lovely weather as they walked for three miles to raise money for the Geden Pacho Bucho project. The project aims to preserve endangered Tibetan Buddhist teaching lineages from dying out as elderly masters pass away. Funds raised by the walkers will support work of a small office in Dharamsala which is researching and cataloguing the lineages. 8 MAY 2007

LELUNG RINPOCHE RELEASES FIRST MUSIC ALBUM

In May 2008, the album Karma was launched which features the poems of Lelung Rinpoche set to music. Songs composed by Richard Hillman Bell bring together the ancient wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism with contemporary melodies making the album accessible to modern listeners. 6 SEPTEMBER 2008

PUBLICATION OF SECOND BOOK BY FIFTH LELUNG RINPOCHE

The second volume of the Fifth Lelung Rinpoche, Pema Zhepai Dorje, has just been published. An heroic figure in the history of the Lelung lineage, the Fifth Lelung revealed many sacred teachings, wrote numerous manuscripts and built a new monastery. 2 JULY 2011

UK television presenter Fearne Cotton attended the Lelung Dharma Centre's Therapy Day on 14 April 2007. The event helped raise awareness about the urgency of preserving endangered Tibetan Buddhist culture. Along with other visitors, Fearne enjoyed holistic healing therapies and the festive atmosphere of the Day, which included food and gift stalls. She met H.E. Lelung Rinpoche who presented her with a traditional Tibetan thangka painting.

LELUNG RINPOCHE MEETS WITH ROBERT THURMAN

In October 2005, Lelung Rinpoche visited New York where he met with friends to discuss his many projects. Rinpoche met Gene Smith of the Tibetan Buddhist Resource Center, who offered him a number of texts of the Fifth Lelung Rinppche that he had been actively searching for. In a meeting with Robert Thurman, Rinpoche learned that Tibet House will publish a history of the Lelung lineage. 14 DECEMBER 2005

SAMDHONG RINPOCHE ENDORSES PROJECT TO RESCUE ENDANGERED LINEAGES

Lelung Rinpoche recently met with Professor Samdhong Rinpoche, Prime Minister of the Tibetan Government in Exile, to discuss the Geden Phacho Bhucho project. The project aims to rescue endangered teaching lineages of the Gelug tradition before they disappear. Samdhong Rinpoche has agreed to become an official advisor and he expressed his satisfaction that this important work is being undertaken. 24 OCTOBER 2006

GENEROUS DONOR COMMISSIONS 21 THANGKAS

Lelung Rinpoche's visit to the US brought some important results for the thangka project. Kathryn Pon, a friend of Rinpoche's, generously agreed to fund the creation of 21 traditional thangka paintings that will accompany the Lelung lineage practices. The thangkas will be done by qualified artists personally approved by Rinpoche in order to ensure that they are as authentic as possible. 9 DECEMBER 2005

A new centre has been opened in Dharamsala to support the activities of the Geden Phacho Bhucho project. The office is the headquarters of the important work to ensure the continued unbroken transmission of the Gelug lineage. SUCCESSFUL CONFERENCE ON GEDEN PHACHO BHUCHO PROJECT

On 29th June 2006, an important conference on Geden Phacho Bhucho at the Norbulingka Institute in Dharamsala, India was successfully concluded. Forty-two lamas from the Gelug lineage attended the meeting along with approximately 50 observers. 25 SEPTEMBER 2006

MOMENT IN TIBET EVENT A GREAT SUCCESS

A Moment in Tibet, a cultural day organised by Lelung Dharma Trust attracted over 200 people in December 2006. Attendees could enjoy a wide range of activities, from massage and reflexology to Tibetan films and foods. Arts and crafts from Tibet were also featured. The purpose of the day was to help raise funds for the Geden Pacho Bucho project, which aims to preserve the endangered teaching lineages of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. 6 FEBRUARY 2007

PUBLICATION OF FIFTH LELUNG RINPOCHE'S WORKS

One of the most important projects currently underway is the compilation of of the collected works of the Fifth Lelung Rinpoche, which were scattered all over the world when Lelung monastery was destroyed in the mid-1950s. Forty volumes of these works have been collected and are currently being transcribed with a view to publication in both Tibetan and English. 12 MAY 2005
